Listen to a clip from the Victoria Baths podcast....listen
Who
Gill Wright, Victoria Baths Manchester
Victoria Baths is an Edwardian ‘swimming palace’ currently being restored to its former glory thanks to winning the BBC’s first Restoration programme, as well as Heritage Lottery and English Heritage funding.
The Brief
Provide materials to allow Victoria Baths to modernise their website, interest a wider audience and showcase the recordings from their oral history archive.
Result
Out Loud Media produced three programmes to bring the site and the existing oral history to life. These were:
A history of swimming in Manchester told through the voices of people who used the baths from the 1930s onwards.
A tribute to Sunny Lowry, a Victoria Baths campaigner and one of the first women to swim the channel.
An audio update of the restoration process told by the craftspeople, builders and staff involved in preserving the building.
They said
"Out Loud Media quickly assessed the nature of our project and how podcasts could be used to our advantage. The process was very satisfactory and the results are fantastic.
"We wanted to modernise our website, reach a wider audience and utilise material from our oral history archive. The production of podcasts has done all of these, and more.
"We are very used to producing written material, to have sound broadcasts is a great step forward for us. The service provided has been extremely efficient and very personable."
